Be Clean

View daily reading plan: Leviticus 15

Eleven times in chapter 15 we read the word “wash” and eleven times the word “bathe”.  We also read the word “unclean” thirty times in the chapter. The Lord continues to emphasise to Moses and Aaron the need for the Lord’s people to be clean (ceremonially clean) in His sight.  The chapter reveals to us that even things that are natural and are not in themselves overtly sinful can cause the people of God to be unclean.

In the spiritual sense there is a great need for “personal hygiene” and for God’s people to act responsibly.  The Psalmist asked the question, “Wherewith shall a young man cleanse his way?” He gives the answer immediately “by taking heed thereto according to thy word” (Psalm 119.9). Jesus said to his disciples “now ye are clean through the word I have spoken” (John 15.3).

If we are to be clean we must spend much time reading and meditating on the Word of God. May we today be marked spiritually as those with “clean hands and a pure heart” (Psalm 24.4).
