Took upon Him the Form of a Servant
View daily reading plan: Philippians 2
The Lord became wholly submissive to His Father’s will. He was the willing bond-slave of the Father. He said, “I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me” (John 6:38). Such was His devotion that it became His sole focus, His very meat and drink (John 4:34). He was prepared to endure whatever was necessary to see the Father’s will complete.
There could be no greater demand than the anticipation of Calvary. But we can remember His words in that prayer in Gethsemane, “not my will, but thine be done” (Luke 22:42). The victory assured, the work assumed complete, the Lord could say to His Father, “I have glorified thee upon the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do” (John 17:4). What a servant!
