A Relationship that Demands Respect
View daily reading plan: Malachi 1:6; 2:1-9
The prophet Isaiah speaks concerning the seraphim. As far as their speech is concerned, they cry in the presence of God “Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory” (Isa 6:3). As far as the deportment of the seraphim is concerned, they use four of their six wings to cover themselves in the presence of the Almighty (Isa 6:2).
The words that are said of Ruth as she entered into the presence of Boaz are delightful, and how pleasing to God it would be if we could follow her example: “she came softly” (Ruth 3:7). The Shunammite, so blessed by the servant of God, Elisha, “went in, and fell at his feet, and bowed herself to the ground” (2 Kings 4:37).
May God so help us to have this same kind of submission, reverence, and respect as each of these women had, and may God help us not to get so ‘over familiar’ that we fail to give to God His rightful place. What a relationship we have to enjoy! Let us enjoy it, and still be reverent and respectful.
