“Received up into Glory”
When the Son of God left heaven and came to earth, no one saw Him coming down to take up manhood. The first view of Him was as a baby lying in a manger at Bethlehem. When He returned to heaven as Conqueror over death and the grave, He went up in full view of his disciples until a cloud received Him out of their sight.
Two angels in white stood beside them as they gazed upwards, and assured them that He would return again. He had blessed them, and they in turn worshipped Him, then went back to Jerusalem with great joy to praise and bless God right there where He had been crucified.
By His own power “He went up” through the atmospheric heavens and the astronomic heavens, into “heaven itself”. He ascended up far above all heavens, and led captivity captive (Eph 4.8-10). “By the right hand of God” He was exalted to the highest place in heaven, to be a Prince and a Saviour (Acts 2.33; 4.31).
With great acclaim He was received up into glory, His father saying to Him, “Sit Thou at my right hand until I make Thine enemies Thy footstool” (Ps 110.1).
