Reading the Scriptures
View daily reading plan: 1 Tim 4.13; 2 Tim 3.15-17
The holy scriptures were written by holy men of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit (2 Pet 1.21), written for us to read. They have stood the test of time, and they will abide forever. They are the unchangeable Word of God, bringing eternal life to the lost and daily light to the saved (Ps 119.105).
As a young boy, Timothy had learned these scriptures at home and they brought him to salvation. As a youth he is exhorted to “give attendance to reading” so that his profiting would appear to all. As a man of God facing untold challenges they will make him “throughly furnished unto all good works”. If we do not read these holy scriptures we will miss these blessings.
It is no secret that the reading of the scriptures is number one priority for the Christian. Daily readings like this can be a great help, but we need more than that. So let’s open our Bibles every day: read it through, take it in, and live it out for it is -
our Maker’s Instruction Book, showing how every part of us can function properly;
our Roadmap for the Journey of Life, showing us how to go forward safely;
our Rule-book for the Race of Life, showing us how to finish triumphantly.
