View daily reading plan: Psalm 23; Mark 6.34-44

The Lord ever seeks the best for His people, and supplies abundantly. One day a multitude of 5,000 men followed the Lord Jesus out to a desert place and, whilst the disciples would have sent them away empty, the Lord fully satisfied them with five loaves and two fishes (Mark 6:34-44). The evangelist Mark makes the remarkable statement that the Lord commanded all of them to sit down on the green grass!

We live in a world of turmoil, where even believers are under pressure from external circumstances, and many are stressed to the limit. To us, as to the disciples of old He would say. “Come ye yourselves apart … and rest awhile” (Mark 6:31). Our Shepherd leads gently, softly, into an environment of which the world knows nothing.
