The Antichrist

View daily reading plan: 2 Thessalonians 2.1-12

After the Rapture a great world leader will appear from among the nations and take control of everything. Read carefully 2 Thessalonians 2.1-12. He is called “the Man of Sin” (v.3) who comes to do the work of Satan (v.9). His arrival is being restrained presently by the presence of Christians and the work of the Holy Spirit (v.6-7), both of which will be removed from the world at the Rapture. There will be a great “falling away” or rejection of God in the world just before he takes over (v.3).

He is also called the Antichrist (1 John 2.18) – this means he is opposed to Christ. He is a deceiver, but he will be widely accepted by those who had refused the gospel - there will be no second chance of salvation for them (2 Thessalonians 2.10). Scriptures such as Daniel 7.19-26 and 9.24-27, along with Revelation 13.1-8 (where he is called “the Beast”) indicate that he will be Head of a revived form of the ancient Roman Empire which ruled the world when our Lord Jesus was here on earth, when he was “cut off” (Daniel 9.26).

Antichrist will at first make a treaty with the nation of Israel. He will probably appear to solve many of the political and financial problems of the world and its nations, especially in the Middle East. He will introduce and supervise a time of worldwide peace and tolerance, even allowing the worship of God in the temple at Jerusalem.
