Millennium
View daily reading plan: Revelation 20.1-6
Revelation 20.1-6 tells us clearly that this kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ will be for a period of a thousand years. Bible students often call this “The Millennium”. This is a Latin word which simply means 1,000 years. During this time the Lord Jesus will reign on earth with His throne established in Jerusalem.
Reigning with Him as priests will be Christians from this day of grace whose bodies have been raised from their graves (v.5-6) at what is called “the first resurrection”. Also raised and reigning with Him are the faithful martyrs who passed through the awful sufferings of the Great Tribulation (v.4). They are also described in Revelation 7.13-17.
Before the Millennium can begin, one terrible enemy has to be got rid of - the devil himself. Notice in v.2 all the names given to him, reminding us of his wickedness and deceit through all the ages of time. A strong angel will bind Satan with a great chain and he becomes a prisoner in the “bottomless pit” for a thousand years. During this period, he cannot deceive the peoples of the earth as he has done so successfully for so long. What a wonderful change that will be! What a wonderful period of peace that will introduce!
