A World at Peace

View daily reading plan: Psalm 72

The perfect righteous reign of Christ will produce conditions on earth very different from what they are today. For centuries the earth has been mismanaged and plundered. Its resources have been wasted.  All this will cease when our Lord Jesus Christ reigns in righteousness and justice. At last there will be an ideal time of peace and plenty and prosperity on this earth.

The prophet Isaiah describes how different it will all be. Here are some of the things that will happen then.
The world will be free from war (2.2-5). All the money spent on weapons of war and military defence will be used for beneficial and peaceful purposes.
The climate will become better for plants to grow (30.23-26). Pests and diseases will no longer cause problems. Supplies will be freely available to everyone so that hunger and thirst will not exist anywhere.
The nature of animals will be changed (11.4-9 and 65.25). Conditions will become like what they were at the beginning of time before sin entered the world.
Disease and death will not prevail (25.6-8). Expensive health care and medical staff will not be needed.

All this will be possible because “a King shall reign in righteousness” (32.1). The Prince of Peace (9.6) will be in control. The earth shall be full of the knowledge of God as the waters cover the sea (11.9).
