It is said that the average person in the United Kingdom

spends hundreds of pounds at Christmas time.

Ironically, most people would agree that it’s actually the

things that money can’t buy that make Christmas really

special. Things like, family, friends and… snow!

I’d like to share with you 3 things which money can’t buy,

but which are available for us all to receive as a free gift

from God this Christmas.

Sadly, there are many people across the world who will

feel unloved, un-cared for and lonely this Christmas.

The Bible offers us the comfort that we are loved by

God, stating that “God demonstrated His love toward

us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us”

(Romans 5.8).

God showed how much He loved us by sending His

only Son, Jesus Christ, to be the Saviour of the world.

Ultimately He would display His love for us upon the cross

of Calvary where He faced unimaginable suffering to save

us from our sin. We don’t deserve God’s love. In fact, we

really deserve God’s judgment because of our sin and

rebellion against Him. However, at the cross God proved

that He loves us more than anyone else has ever loved us.

Unfortunately, many people have made mistakes, and

hurt those who are closest to them. The thing they would

like to receive most this Christmas is forgiveness.

The Bible teaches that we need forgiveness from God.

We offend God every time we break His Law (the Ten

Commandments). Our sin separates us from God, will shut

us out of Heaven, and will lead us to eternal punishment.

Nobody’s perfect. We’re all guilty and we all need God’s

The good news is that God is merciful, and is willing to

forgive. “For God so loved the world that He gave His

only Son (Jesus Christ) that whoever believes on Him will

not perish (in Hell) but has everlasting life (in Heaven)”

(John 3.16).

On the cross, Jesus paid the penalty, and bore the

punishment due for our sins. The innocent Saviour

suffered for us, the guilty sinners. The Bible says if we

repent and trust in Him we are forgiven because “the

blood of Jesus Christ, God’s Son, cleanses us from all sin”

(1 John 1.7).

Everlasting Life

We cannot buy an extra day, hour, or even minute of life

on this earth. “It is appointed unto men once to die, but

after this the judgment” (Hebrews 9.27).

Death is the solemn fact we must all face up to. Many will

spend Christmas remembering loved ones who are no

longer with them.

But the Bible offers us hope beyond the grave. “The wages

of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life, through

Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6.23). While we deserve

Hell, the sacrifice of Jesus Christ upon the cross, and His

resurrection three days later, mean that He can offer us

everlasting life and a home in Heaven. In Heaven, “God

will wipe away all tears from their eyes, and there will be

no more death, or sorrow, or crying, neither shall there be

any more pain” (Revelation 21.4).

All the money in the world cannot buy love, forgiveness

and everlasting life, but God offers them to you, free of

charge this Christmas. It is His gift to you.

If you want to receive God’s love, forgiveness and

everlasting life, the Bible says you must confess (admit

that you have sinned and rightfully deserve God’s

punishment), repent (give up the things in your life which

are offensive to God), and believe (commit yourself to

Jesus Christ, trusting that when He died on the cross it

was for sins that belonged to you).
