ELLIS - MARY SLESSOR
A blending of the Grace of God and a strong Scottish character most surely account for the accomplishments of the renowned and noble Mary Slessor. Born in Aberdeen into a home with few natural privileges, the family then moved to Dundee, where conditions deteriorated further due to her father's liking for alcohol. There is no doubt it was the influence of her mother along with a mother's prayers, which were the means of leading Mary to place her faith and trust in Christ, which in turn led to an all consuming desire to serve Him. The sphere of service for Mary was never in doubt. Calabar was one of the most unhealthy and neglected areas of West Africa. Her acheivements which are the subject of the book make for captivating reading, all of which were the result of a life given over without regret or reserve to the One who saved her as a young girl.
