Revelation

The book of Revelation ought to be read! We should read it because of the place it occupies. The last book in the Bible, it brings the sacred record to a close. We should read it because of the promise it contains. The book begins by bestowing a blessing on all those who hear and heed its message. We should read it because of the programme it unfolds. The future of the church and the whole world is set out in great detail – and what is written as prophecy may become history far sooner than many imagine. Above all, we should read it because of the person it presents. This book is not just a revelation of coming events – it is the revelation of Jesus Christ. He is here seen as the Lord, the Lamb, the Lion, the Light, and with this revelation, comfort and challenge. Many commentaries have been written on Revelation, but this one is particularly recommended. It is thorough and yet very easy to read. Chapters are divided and sub-divided. Helpful headings abound! The book draws from valuable material in other books. Many authors are quoted, often at length. There is exposition here – and application: encouragement and exhortation. The book is immensely practical.

John Riddle is well-known throughout the United Kingdom and further afield as a very gifted Bible teacher. For many years, he has conducted a Friday evening Bible Class in Cheshunt. These studies in Revelation started in July 2019. They had progressed as far as Chapter 9 by March 2020 when Coronavirus meant the suspension of in-person gatherings. Instead, notes were compiled and circulated. The members of the Cheshunt Bible Class have been richly blessed as they have been taken through so many books in the Bible – and through this series of commentaries others can now benefit as well.
